The man hat lives!

A few weeks ago, I wrote about the death of man hat 1. I casted on too many stitches and didn’t realize it until the decrease; I had to rip out and start over. I just finished weaving my ends under a few minutes ago. I like the hat. It was fairly easy to make and went pretty fast. It’s a little big on my head (fits better rolled up a little), but maybe it will fit my boyfriend better. I had a little trouble at the decrease using the double pointed needles. I’ve never knit in the round with double pointed needles and it was a kind of awkward and uncomfortable. Also,as a newish knitter, this wasn’t really clear to me: The pattern calls for 4 double pointed needles. Which means: you divide your work onto the 4 needles and use a fifth needle as a working needle. I think? (This was the result of trial and error as I realized my work was no longer divided evenly, but ending up all on one DPN. Maybe I would try the “magic loop” next time. Also, the decrease area looks kind of messy because of the pattern + decrease. Time to wrap it up and hide it away as a gift!

What do you think of my first hat? Do you have trouble knitting in the round with double pointed needles? Do you use the magic loop often?

Looks really nice. Using double pointed needles is an acquired taste that gets easier with time.
